About Uganda Wildlife Education Centre (UWEC)
The Uganda Wildlife Education Centre (UWEC), popularly known as the Entebbe Zoo, is a conservation and education facility on the shores of Lake Victoria. Originally established as a sanctuary for injured, orphaned, and rescued animals, UWEC is home to lions, leopards, cheetahs, chimpanzees, rhinos, elephants, the iconic shoebill stork, crested cranes, and over 120 bird species. Visitors can enjoy behind-the-scenes tours, keeper-for-a-day programs, a 1km forest nature trail, boat rides on Lake Victoria, and a waterfront restaurant. It's the perfect half-day or full-day stop for families arriving at or departing from Entebbe International Airport.
