Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary
About Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary
Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary is a 70 km² private non-profit reserve on the Kampala–Gachero road, midway between Kampala and Murchison Falls National Park. Established to reintroduce rhinos to Uganda (extinct in the wild since the 1980s), Ziwa now protects over 30 southern white rhinos. The highlight is a guided rhino tracking walk on foot-getting within metres of these prehistoric giants. Combined with shoebill trekking at nearby swamps and excellent birding (over 350 species), Ziwa is an essential stop on any northern Uganda safari circuit.
