Mabamba Bay Wetland
About Mabamba Bay Wetland
Mabamba Bay is a RAMSAR-listed wetland on the northern shores of Lake Victoria, one of the most reliable places in Africa to see the shoebill stork (Balaeniceps rex). Local canoe guides paddle visitors through labyrinthine papyrus channels at dawn, when shoebills hunt lungfish in the shallows. The wetland supports over 260 bird species including papyrus gonolek, blue swallow, and various kingfishers. Easily combined with Entebbe, UWEC, or as a day trip from Kampala, Mabamba is essential for birders and wildlife photographers.
