About Mgahinga Gorilla National Park

Mgahinga Gorilla National Park sits in the extreme southwest of Uganda, bordering Rwanda and the DRC on the slopes of three extinct Virunga volcanoes: Muhabura, Gahinga, and Sabyinyo. Home to one habituated gorilla family (Nyakagezi) and endemic golden monkeys, Mgahinga offers a quieter alternative to Bwindi with dramatic volcanic scenery. The park is also rich in Batwa pygmy heritage-the indigenous forest people who once lived here offer cultural walks explaining their traditional forest life.
